Travel immunisation advice

 

 

Services available


In addition to the normal medical services carried out by the practice team the following services are available to our patients:

  • New patient medicals to check height, weight, blood pressure, medical history and discuss any concerns
  • Ante-natal and post-natal care, in conjunction with the community midwives
  • Child health surveillance and immunisations
  • Family planning including coil fitting
  • Emergency contraception – the post-coital pill is effective up to 72 hours from the time of intercourse and a coil can be fitted up to five days after unprotected intercourse. To discuss either of these options, please ask to speak to the practice nurse or doctor
  • Cervical smears – these are offered every three to five years for all women aged 25-64
  • Breast screening – this is offered every three years to all women aged 50-64
  • Menopause and HRT
  • Management of high blood pressure
  • Asthma care
  • Diabetic care
  • Care for the elderly
  • Joint injections
  • Minor surgery and minor injury
  • Flu and pneumovax vaccinations, these are given in the Autumn free of charge to all over 65’s (over 75’s for pneumovax) and ‘at-risk’ groups
  • Travel advice and vaccinations. The practice nurses are available by appointment to offer medical advice regarding travel. Vaccinations often have to be given a number of weeks before travel so don’t leave it until the last minute! Please call the MASTA helpline (0906 550 1402) before your appointment to obtain a health brief for your journey and bring this to your appointment. Charges apply for some travel vaccinations – please see the scale of charges in reception

  • Counselling – if you are experiencing emotional difficulties your doctor can refer you to our fully qualified counsellor

  Non NHS services


We offer a variety of services such as, pre-employment medicals, signing of medical insurance forms and certain travel vaccinations which are not covered by the National Health Service. The fees we charge for these services are displayed in the waiting room. Please ask the receptionist if you are unsure about the fee you will be required to pay. Unless 24 hours notice is given of the cancellation of a booked medical then the full fee will be charged.
